For L2 missions, with missile skills, use a Caracal, Corax, Talwar or Bellicose. The destroyers (Talwar, Corax) will be best suited to the role, use light missiles and afterburner or MWD to maintain range, but you will need good shield support skills and navigation skills to reliably complete missions with the ship intact (shield operation, shield management to 4), and use a shield booster with 1 hardener, no expanders.
The caracal or drake are the best heavy missile platforms: heavy missiles are good for blowing up frigates. The Navy Scorpion is a cruise missile or torpedo platform: neither missile type is suited to blowing up frigates.
With decent missile, shield and navigation skills and a decent meta-3 Corax you will be blowing up L2 mission frigates with one or two light missiles, L2 mission cruisers in a couple of salvos. I still use the Corax in L3 missions, but only because I am a masochist.
My typical missile boat fit involves overdrive injector(s), ballistic controls, MWD, and a full rack of the best launchers I can get my hands on. For mission running, I sometimes spend more on the launchers and ballistic controls than the hull is worth (i.e: T2 launchers and ballistic control on a Corax).
I find the Corax more entertaining to fly than the Caracal. But I am a masochist, so coming home from a mission with hull damage means I had a few heart-in-my-mouth moments, which is what I find entertaining. With the Caracal you are setting yourself up for RSI: target stuff as quickly as you can, press the individual missile launcher buttons as fast as you can, get back to base as fast as you can, accept the next mission as fast as you can GǪ wash, rinse, repeat.
The Caracal becomes entertaining in L3 missions. The Drake is a reliable performer for L2-4 missions.
The Navy Scorpion becomes useful for fleets where you have web and painter support, and you have the right missile system fitted, and you have excellent missile skills. It is useful for Incursion fleets, for example. Day 0 advice for new players: Day 0 Advice for New Players |
